It's just that much more scientifical proof that using these things on our dogs are much more harmful to them then good. I found it very interesting and helpful in giving me more evidence to support my feelings on these training aids. So please if you are looking for someone to train your dog, do not go with shock training. Please remember, the e collar has been banned and determined inhumane by Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria and many parts of
Australia. Hopefully we will follow suit!
IAABC Confrence 2011

Hi again everyone!

I was on my facebook page this morning and noticed a link posted by The Little Rhodie Bully Breed Club Inc. It's an article posted from Turn to 10 about the first Pit Bull to be used for police search and rescue in Rhode Island. It is so good to see this wonderful breed FINALLY getting some good PR for once! Hopefully the more we educate people and continue to put these dogs in place where they help to save and enrich human lives they will finally be able to shed their undeserved reputation!

Here is the link to the article, enjoy! -

I know it's been a while since posting anything on here, but I figured I would try to start it up again! So this weekend in an effort to further my dog training know-how, I attended a weekend long seminar put on by Dogs Of Course!. The guest speakers for the seminar were Patricia McConnell and Ken Remirez. They each had a day to themselves and the days were entitled For The Love Of The Dog: Emotions in You & Your Dog, and How They Affect Training and Relationships / From Purgatory to Nirvana: The Path To Enlightened Training.

I was most excited to her Patricia talk since I had yet to hear her speak and loved several of her books. And I can tell you she didn't disappoint! She kept things interesting and up-beat. I won't go into what she taught just because people are so uppity about what you post any where that the last thing I need is to get in trouble for posting to much info! haha!!!! But I can tell you that personally I found her amazing and can't wait to hear her speak again. I picked up a few of her books while I was there and can't wait to start them.

I didn't enjoy the second day with Ken as much. He was a GREAT speaker! But I had actually heard a lot of what he said today already when I heard him speak at Clicker Expo when it was in RI recently. That and I think being woken up by a roaring train at 3 a.m. and having my brain filled for 8 hrs the day before didn't really help. I did find his talking about secondary reinforcers much more interesting and helpful then I did about his talking on problem solving ( again because I had already heard it and was craving something new). On the whole it was a good talk but I think it could be much better when given to a group of people with their level of experience & skill being the same as opposed to being generalized for a large group of people with mixed levels of skill, which was the audience at this weekend.

All in all it was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to be able to do something similar again. If any one is interested in going to seminars to further their knowledge on dogs and training a great place to start looking is dogsofcourse.com. Hope to see you at something in the future!

Good Night All!!!!
We had to make a trip to the vet for an eye injury. This was then followed by poking, prodding, eye drops, and nail clipping. To make matters worse it was followed by being condemned to wearing a cone for a week. So needless to say Shaggy has NOT had a good day. But he should be up and back to normal in about a week. We will keep you posted!

Update

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of announcements for this month.
